“For the Love of Mangroves” collection was born out of Annabel’s kayaking experiences in and around Anna Maria Island and Sarasota Bay, both above and below the water. Annabel used watercolor, gouache and ink in this series. They are small imaginary snapshots into the rich, diverse and delicate eco-system we have on our doorstep. “I hope to highlight the deep beauty and magic of our mangroves as well as encourage others to go out and experience them for themselves”.
Meet Artist Annabel Snyder
Annabel spent her childhood in West Africa where she was born in the early sixties. Although originally British, Anna Maria Island is now Annabel’s home. For much of her life, Annabel has been fortunate to have traveled and lived all over the world. But, it was while attending UCA (University of Creative Arts) in Surrey, England that she became fascinated with repeat patterns, shapes, tessellation, replicated colors and optical effects. Massive influencers were Bridget Riley, Seurat, William Morris and the Arts & Craft Movement. Morris’s realistic, dynamic and colorful drawings and patterns featuring flora and fauna helped influence Annabel’s present-day style.
