“En Plein air” is French for ‘in the open air’. Plein air began in the late 1800s when the Impressionists ventured from their studios into nature to capture the effects of sunlight and different times of days on a subject. The plein air paintings on exhibit were painted outside thus requiring rapid composition and brushwork by the artist to capture the light before it changes.
The Studio is looking for watercolor, oil, acrylic or pastel submissions that have been executed outdoors, on location in Florida within the last 3 years. Resident local plein air artist Cory Wright will judge the show, which will award over $500 in prizes to the selected winners.
