Janet Whitehead![]() Raised in Miami, Janet Whitehead graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a degree in art. She spent over 30 years in Atlanta, GA where she was a successful real estate broker, property developer and builder with her own company. In 2003 she retired and returned to the fine arts, emerging herself in workshops and the Fine Art Certificate Program at Ringling College of Art and Design. She is an active member of several art groups and often exhibits and wins awards in juried exhibitions. She is represented in the John Collette Fine Art Gallery in Highlands, N.C. The artist's paintings are a study of humanity. Her ability to successfully capture body language and emotional atmosphere, express differences and similarities, agreement or disagreement, harmony or disharmony, they are studies of the human condition. Janet's subjects are very familiar yet, anonymous. "My goal is to inspire introspection and to use the abstract qualities of color and light to take the viewer beyond reality to something beautiful and visually poetic." says Whitehead. - go to Meet the Artists |
Pat Atkinson
Born in rural Indiana, Pat Atkinson received her undergraduate and MBA degrees from Indiana University Bloomington. After a successful career, Pat left the formulas, the rules and the black and white of the business world to enter the world of color and art. "I was fortunate that an accomplished artist took me under her wing and was determined I learn to paint. She gave me a priceless gift – the love of the movement of the paint and the brush.' Recently, Pat has been concentrating on painting with inks. Inks are a challenging medium because unlike her acrylics, or even watercolors, there are no "second chances." Once a mark is made, it is permanent. "I need to be very focused when I paint – there can be no distractions. I must react quickly to color and movement, using my intuition to persuade the images to emerge." Pat has studied with nationally known artists, such as Pat Dews, Linda Kemp, Bill Buchman and Gerald Brommer. She continues to study art through classes at Ringling and at various other venues. - go to Meet the Artists |
